SHADES OF SALVAGE-1: Aon To Take A Risk With Orbital Recovery.

The actual work here is being done by Orbital Recovery Corporation, with Aon Space performing insurance brokering, risk management studies, and "target" identification.

It's not a bad idea, if ORC can pull it off. DARPA, I learned at the WSC exhibition on Saturday, is developing automated docking mechanisms for this purpose, with the idea that a small, lightweight standardized passive docking fixture can be incorporated in future satellites to enable a retrieval tug to capture them and return them to LEO for service or disposal. This indicates that there is at least some broader support for the idea (i.e.: that it isn't merely a stillborn "great concept" with no real-world demand).
