MORE SATURNALIA: Save The LUT is a web initiative to save Launch Umbilical Tower #1, the only remaining (uncannibalized, anyway) tower from the Apollo program.

I visited KSC in April, having no idea that the tower was still in existence. A wrong turn behind the Administration building led us past these gigantic orange cubes built from iron beams. It took me a minute to recognize it, but sure enough, there it was -- a Saturn umbilical tower, cut into segments and placed in a field.

It's sad, really, to have preserved it but not preserved it.
