Up-Front Luddism
I thought I might have sounded a bit over-the-top in my earlier entry, when I speculated that the opposition to space nuclear power was less about alternative energy options and more about stopping human activities in space altogether. Then I find this: The newspaper said that environmentalists had long complained about the harm to nature from rocket launches from Plesetsk, about 1,200 kilometers (800 miles) north of Moscow, but officials had dismissed their push for compensation. That about says it all, nyet? Posted by T.L. James on April 21, 2003 08:44 PM
