Space plane a banal step for man -- NASA pondering designs that critics say lack imagination Ouch. The LA Times doesn't seem to think much of the capsule alternative. Posted by T.L. James on April 13, 2003 12:52 AM

I don't buy the criticism regarding lack of technological innovation. The purpose of this craft is pretty clear: improve safety while reducing cost. When you add the need to get it into service within a realistic time frame, who cares how innovative it is? I will look for innovation when we are designing a spacecraft that does something we haven't been doing for years already, like sending humans to Mars.
