Happy CP-1 Day!
Today is the 64th anniversary of the world's first controlled, self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction. The Wikipedia entry is disappointingly brief. Rhodes' The Making of the Atomic Bomb gives much more detail as to how the pile was constructed and how it worked (along with fun little details like Fermi and crew wearing the fur warmup coats of the disbanded University of Chicago football team to stay warm while working in the unusually cold weather). who are you? do you have the credentials to be pompous or do you just do this for fun? your rebuttal of the yale professor's opposition to the moon missions wasn't much more than a few nit-picky remarks, catching him on some small errors and grouping him with everyone else who has a similar opinion against space exploration. if i were to stereotype you like so, i'd call you an o'reilly. sorry to complain Posted by: qbin at December 8, 2006 06:45 AM |
